Abstract
1,148,072. Blasting. WOMA-APPARATEBAU W. MAASBERG & CO. G.m.b.H. 25 April, 1966, No. 17930/66. Heading B3D. A method of mechanically finishing a workpiece by removing some of the material thereof, particularly cutting or boring, comprises producing a high speed high pressure liquid jet in a blast nozzle of 2 to 3 millimetres diameter bore at pressures of 100 to 900 atmospheres and directing the jet on to the workpiece, a particulate liquid being mixed with the jet. The liquid is preferably water. The particulate material may be sand, quartz sand, corundum, flue dust or the like; it may be directly mixed with the liquid when the jet is produced in the blast nozzle or it may be mixed with the liquid only at the workpiece. Alternatively, the particulate material may be freed from the workpiece by the jet. Apparatus comprises a housing 1 enclosing an injector 2 to which water is supplied, through a conduit 3, by a pump, e.g. a piston pump. A tube 6 is connected with a supply contained for particulate material. An interchangeable nozzle 4 is secured by a cap 5.
