Abstract

1,147,998. Springing unit. MOULTON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 3 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 49929/66. Heading F2S. An hydraulic displacer unit for use in a fluid pressure system comprises an opposed pair of generally cup shaped open mouthed rigid metal housing members 21, 31 arranged spaced apart with their open mouths facing towards one another, a rigid piston member 40 associated with each housing member and movable inwardly and outwardly of its mouth, a pair of annular flexible diaphragms 41 respectively bridging each respective piston and its associated housing member and each diaphragm with each piston and its associated housing defining a fluid filled chamber 42. The two pistons 40 are rigidly joined to one another, each piston being of hollow tubular form to define a fluid-filled passage way hydraulically interconnecting the two chambers. Alternatively the pistons 40 may be solid wherein a pipe 46 externally of the unit which opens into the two chambers may define the interconnecting passage way. Each diaphragm is arranged to roll between a generally frusto-conical skirt 52 extending from the mouth of its associated housing member, and a frusto-conical skirt 53 formed on its associated piston member. The unit is interconnected with an hydraulic accumulator spring (not shown) by means of a conduit pipe connected to a nipple 21a. A resilient bump stop device (e.g. a bellows like rubber spring) may be connected between the housing members 21, 31. When the housing members are urged towards one another, the two pistons move inwardly of the mouths of their associated housing members causing fluid to be displaced from the unit as a whole through nipple 21a into the hydraulic accumulator spring, and vice versa.
