Abstract

1,147,984. Preparing alkylene polyamines. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. 20 June, 1966 [7 July, 1965], No. 28872/65. Heading C2C. Alkylene polyamines are prepared by heating an aqueous ammonia solution and mixing it with an alkylene polychloride which is at ambient temperature, the ammonia being in molar excess; passing the mixture into a reactor and reacting the mixture in the liquid phase under pressure; and recovering the products. Specified products include ethylene diamine, for which reaction a temperature of 120-180‹ C. is used and a molar ratio NH 3 : C 2 H 2 Cl 2 of at least 30: 1. The reaction product is liberated from its hydrochloride using excess aqueous caustic soda. Piperazine may be formed as a by-product.
