Abstract

1,147,718. Glass fibres. AEROJET-GENERAL CORP. 24 Aug., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 39041/67. Heading C1M. A glass fibre contains in per cent by weight; SiO 2 54-72; Al 2 O 3 11-32; MgO 7À4-22À8; AS 2 O 3 >0À1 and optionally CaO up to 7À5; Li 2 O up to 7À0; B 2 O 3 up to 2À0 and La 2 O 3 up to 5. It may be made by mixing, in appropriate proportions (given in the Specification) of SiO 2 , aluminium hydrate, MgCO 3 , As, CaCO 3 , Li 2 CO 3 , B(OH) 3 and La 2 O 3 in granular form, melting at 2800‹ F., fritting, remelting in a bushing and fibrizing at 2700-3050‹ F.
