1,147,701. Substituted 2-anilinonicotinic acid derivatives. SCHERICO Ltd. 28 Feb., 1966, No. 8638/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of general formula wherein M is H or C 1-4 alkyl, one of A and E is H and the other is Cl or Br and D is Cl or Br or when A is Cl and E is H then D may also be methyl with an additional chlorine substituent at the 6-position of the phenyl ring and esters or hydroxamic acid derivatives, and salts e.g. with metals or diethanolamine are prepared by reaction of a compound of formula and a compound of formula wherein R is H or a substituent which does not interfere with the reaction and one of Q and T is an amino group optionally monosubstituted by a benzyl, alkyl or acyl group and the other is a reactive ester group, optionally followed by salt ester or hydroxamic acid formation, and, where necessary, by removal of any substituent from the nitrogen atom bridging the phenyl and pyridyl groups. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,064,259.
