Abstract

1,147,474. Control of fuel injection pumps during starting and acceleration. AUTOMOBILES M. BERLIET. Sept.28, 1966 [Oct. 1, 1965], No.43277/66. Heading F1B. An exhaust smoke reduction device, of an I.C. engine fuel injection pump, which is movable beyond a full-load regulating position C, Fig. 3 to an overload position (S), Fig. 4 (not shown), during starting comprises a pneumatic damping device having a cylinder 3 and piston 4 forming a chamber provided with a braking valve 7 having an air inlet 12 and an air outlet 10, the air outlet having a cross-section smaller than the cross-section of the air inlet, the chamber including a spring 5 which returns the piston to the full load position. When starting the pneumatic device permits progressive movement towards the overload position S but prevents rapid movement during starting up or running beyond the full load position C towards the overload position S in which undesirable exhaust smoke emission would occur. In a modification the device is integral with the pump body.
