Abstract
1,147,012. Indicating fluid-pressure, electrically. SUNDSTRAND CORP. Oct. 7, 1966 [Nov. 26, 1965], No.45031/66. Heading G1N. When fluid-pressure in a chamber 21 Fig. 2 exceeds a value (e.g. 100 p.s.i.), determined by a biasing compression spring 90, a piston 70 is moved against the force of the spring, and moves a laminated core armature 19 against a core 42 carrying an A.C. energized coil 40 thereby changing the inductance there of and altering its impedance from a low value when an air gap is greatest to a high impedance value when the two cores are together. The new value of the coil impedance may be such as to cause operation of a control device or indicator (not described). The armature core is carried by a shaft 54 which is coupled to the piston head 71 by a lost motion link including a pin 77 fixed to the head and slidable in a slot in the armature shaft, the piston thereby being free to move a greater distance than the armature, and a compression spring 80 within the piston urges the armature toward the core. The armature shaft 54 carries a permanent magnet ring 56 to collect undesirable metal particles held in suspension by the hydraulic fluid, which may leak past the piston from the chamber 21, which chamber may be in a constant speed drive housing (not described).
