Abstract

1,145,150. Knitting machine needles. GEORGES LEBOCEY & CIE. 18 Aug., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 38082/67. Heading D1C. A knitting needle has a zone between the butt and the hook of structural mechanical characteristics different from those of the rest of the needle. The zone provides a means for impeding the propogation of shock waves generated by the needles striking the needle cams with its butt. The zone may be obtained by thermal, chemical or mechanical treatment of the shank of the needle thereby modifying the physical structure of the metal. The provision of the zone avoids the breaking of the hook of the needle when the machine reaches a critical speed. Notches may additionally be provided in the shank of the needle or alternatively the needles may have in addition to the zone one or two further zones subjected to longitudinal compression. Rings or sleeves may also be arranged round the shank of the needle.
