Abstract

1,144,863. Extrusion/rolling plastic sheets. HERMAN BERSTORFF MASCHINENBAUANSTALT G.m.b.H. 13 April, 1967 [12 Jan., 1967], No. 17057/67. Heading B5A. In the production of plastics or rubber sheets, material is screw extruded from a long slot die 4 into the nip between calendering rolls 5, 6, the pressure of material adjacent the slot orifice being measured and correlated with the speed of rolls 5, 6 to maintain this pressure and hence maintain the thickness of the sheet at a predetermined value. As shown, a pressure gauge 7 is placed immediately upstream of the slot orifice and is connected to roll drive 9 via a regulator 8. Alternatively, the gauge may be placed between the slot orifice and the roll nip. The slot orifice is fed via a diverging passageway (4a), Fig. 2 (not shown).
