Abstract
1,143,309. Aqueous dispersions of crosslinked polyaddition products. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 18 April, 1967 [28 April, 1966], No. 17728/67. Heading C3R. Aqueous dispersions of cross-linked polyaddition products containing urea groups are prepared by dispersing a polyurethane and/or polyurea containing ionic groups and free isocyanate groups in water in the presence of polyamines and/or hydrazines. The polyurethane and/or polyurea containing ionic groups and free isocyanate groups may be prepared in a conventional manner (see e.g. Belgian Specification 653,223), those exemplified being prepared from (i) a linear polyether or polyester, an aliphatic or aromatic polyisocyanate and (a) N-methyldiethanolamine followed by reaction with dimethyl sulphate or (b) the potassium salt of an adduct of 1,3-propanesultone and ethylene diamine or (ii) N-methyldiethanolamine, hexamethylene - 1,6 - diisocyanate and a diamine prepared by reacting a polypropylene ether with nitrophenyl isocyanate followed by reduction. Numerous suitable polyamines and/or hydrazines are listed, those exemplified being diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylenepentamine, pentaethylenehexamine, tripropylene - 1,2 - tetramine, bis - (3- aminopropyl)-amine, a polyamide prepared from adipic acid and excess diethylene triamine and hydrazine. The polyurethane and/or polyurea containing free isocyanate groups and ionic groups is preferably dissolved in an inert organic solvent and added to a solution of the polyamine or hydrazine in water, with stirring, and the organic solvent then removed by steamdistillation.
