Abstract

1,142,983. Piezo-electric transducers. H. LIST. Jan.29, 1968 [Feb. 9, 1967], No. 4451/68. Heading G1N. A Piezo-electric transducer Fig. 1 comprises a number of Piezo-electric discs 9 located in the bore 5 of a cylindrical member 3, inserted in a housing 2. A disc electrode 10 rests on the top of the disc pile 9 and a shim 12 is located at the bottom, resting on a cup spring membrane 14 whose periphery 15 centres and seals the disc pile, and whose central portion comprises a forcetransmitting boss 16 located in a roller membrane 18 which seals a chamber 20 between the member 3 and an outer housing 2, through which cold water is circulated. The Piezo-electric discs 9 are insulated from member 3 by tube 8. The membrane 14 provides a perdetermined axial prestress for the Piezo-electric element. In modifications the outer housing 2 and the water-cooling system is deleted, and the Piezo-electric disc assembly may be inter-connected by diffusion welding, eliminating the need for the insulating tube 8.
