Abstract

1,142,231. Control for toy vehicle on track. A. E. GOLDFARB. 1 Feb., 1966 [1 Feb., 1965], No. 4364/66. Heading A6S. The operation of a toy vehicle on a track supplied with electric power is controlled by a rheostat connected to the power supply, and a simulated pit stop control connected to the rheostat so as to override its normal operation and supply a minimum amount of power to the track after a predetermined amount of use of the rheostat. As shown rheostat coil 68 is controlled normally by slider 61 operated by knob 142. Each time the knob is moved to the left, dog 234 engages a tooth 232 of ratchet-wheel 228, causing it to rotate counterclockwise by one increment. After one revolution, cam 226 on wheel 228 engages cam 242 on latch 206 lifting the latch out of the position of contact with vertical section 194 of plate 188, shown in Fig. 5. Plate 188 moves to the right under the influence of spring 200: the resulting movement cam 215 causes spring 216 to open the circuit at contact 222 and close it at contact 218, placing the full resistance of coil 68 in the circuit to the track and thereby slowing the vehicle. To restore normal operation, the vehicle is moved from the track to a simulated pit stop 150 (Fig. 3). Protuberance 41 engages lever 168 and pivots it about pin 170, bringing end 175 into engagement with plate 188. Plate 188 is pushed to the left, so that the circuit is again closed at contact 222. This position is maintained against spring 200 in that operation of knob 142 as the vehicle slows down will rotate wheel 228 and disengages cams 242. arid 226, so that latch 206 will move into the position of Fig. 5 under the influence of spring 242a. A steering bends in the track) may also operate the wheel on shaft 89 (for turning the car around simulated pit stop control. As shown, when the wheel is turned clockwise, lug 266 engages arm 258 to swing plate 248 about pivot 260 thus bringing dog 250 into engagement with teeth 232 of ratchet wheel 228 in the same manner as dog 234.
