Abstract
1,141,796. Coating seeds. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 12 May, 1966 [11 May, 1965], No. 19893/65. Heading A2Q. A method of modifying the rate of germination of a seed (e.g. parsnip or cress seeds) comprises coating the seed with one or more organosilicon compounds selected from organohalosilanes, organopolysiloxanes and mixtures of distillable by-product organosilicon compounds obtained in the making of chlorosilanes. The coating may comprise dimethyldichlorosilane, methyldichlorosilane, methyltrichlorosilane or phenylmethyldichlorosilane. The organosilicon compounds may comprise substituted ethyl, propyl, vinyl, allyl, naphthyl, amino alkyl or haloaryl groups. The coating may be applied in the form of a dispersion, solution or vapour.
