Abstract

[Also in Division C7] A conductive screen is applied to the insulating coating of a wire by electroless plating. The wire insulated with e.g. P.V.C. is passed through an acetone solution of a palladium chloride-hydrochloric acid complex, the solvent is evaporated from the wire and the wire is coated with nickel by being passed through a bath containing nickel sulphate, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hypophosphate and sufficient ammonium hydroxide to raise the pH to between 10 and 11. The bath temperature is 65-75‹ C. The chemically deposited nickel layer may be thickened by electroplating. Copper or gold screens may similarly be applied by electroless plating.
