Abstract

1,140,947. Disinfecting with epoxides. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 13 May, 1966 No. 21463/66. Heading A5G. Articles are sterilized by contacting with a biocidal epoxide, e.g. ethylene or propylene oxide, and formic acid or a substance yielding formic acid on hydrolysis or heating, in such a way that a synergistic sterilizing effect is achieved. Methods involving successively subjecting articles to formic acid and epoxide vapours or solutions in either order and contacting the articles with both substances simultaneously are described.
