Abstract

1,140,438. One-way clutches. NATIONALSTANDARD CO., and J. M. DODWELL. 11 July, 1967 [11 July, 1966], No. 31939/67. Heading F2C. A one-way clutch has a number of clutch band assemblies 15 each comprising interfitting and overlapping spirally arranged metal bands 16 tapered along their length to frictionally engage the side walls 12, 13 of a corresponding number of V-grooves 11 in a driven shaft 9, the bands 16 having keys (17) or (22), Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown), co-operating with corresponding keyway pockets 20 in a surrounding driving shaft 8, the clutch assembly being retained within a housing 10. In Fig. 1 (not shown) each band 16 has a key (17) formed as a bent-over portion at its wider end, whilst in Fig. 4 (not shown) a number of axially spaced bands (16<SP>1</SP>) are joined by a common key (22) at their wider end.
