Abstract

1,140,241. Sequential and selective control systems. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. 22 July, 1966 [22 May, 1965], No. 21796/65. Headings G4H and G4P. [Also in Division H2] A circuit arrangement for controlling the operation, either sequentially or selectively, of apparatus such as may be used in the polishing of motor car bumpers comprises a plurality of "and" stages 3a-3c and a plurality of bi-stable "latch" stages 4a 4c, the arrangement being such that each "latch" stage has an output which provides an output signal 2a-2c which signal commands the operation of the functional stages of the apparatus, provides one of the signals for an associated "and" stage and provides a signal for one of the "latch" stages which latter signal causes the "latch" stage to change its state; external signals 1a-1c which are applied to the "and" stages to produce an output therefrom whenever another input to an "and" stage from a "latch" stage exists, the output from which "and" stage is applied to a "latch" stage to cause it to change its state in a direction opposite that caused by the input applied thereto thus causing the "latch" stage to provide an output. In another embodiment the interconnections between the "and" and "latch" stages are such that the "latch" stages provide the trigger signals for other "latch" stages and the output of the "and" stages provide the resetting signals for the "latch" stages. The input signals are supplied to all the "and" stages from a common source. The elements of the "and" and "latch" stages may be electronic or fluid and, if desired, switches may be incorporated in the system whereby certain stages may be rendered inoperative.
