Abstract

1,140,159. Producing formers for multicavity moulds. PRECISION METALSMITHS Inc. 22 March, 1967, No. 32000/67. Divided out of 1,140,158. Heading B5A. A process for assembling a former comprising a base and patterns attached to it by a gate forming member, the former being for use in a lost wax process for making a mould for a multiplicity of small articles, comprises the steps of locating a plurality of patterns in desired positions around the base with the aid of locating markings on the base member, and attaching the patterns in these positions. As shown, the base is a hollow cylinder preferably of corrugated cardboard covered with a cylinder of porous paper carrying the required pattern of lines and is coated with a thin layer of wax. The wax patterns 13 are attached to the base 11 by gate-forming members 14; the wax on a small area of the base being melted to receive the gate forming member. The locating scale on the base preferably comprises a mesh of longitudinal and circumferential lines. Scales which fit circumferentially and longitudinally on to the base and have the same spacing as the lines of the locating scale may be provided, the separation of the wax patterns being determined from these scales before insertion into the base.
