Abstract

1,140,019. Fuels. HENKEL & CIE G.m.b.H. 4 April, 1967 [5 April, 1966], No. 15254/67. Heading C5G. [Also in Division C7] A corrosion inhibitor, intended to be added to fuel oil, comprises a mixture of (A) a salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing 6 to 12 carbon atoms and an alkylamine substituted by hydroxyl groups; and (B) a salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing 4 to 12 carbon atoms and an alkylamine containing 4 to 16 carbon atoms, the total number of carbon atoms in the salt being more than 10, the ratio A: B by weight being between 1: 9 and 9:1. Preferably the acid of salt (A) contains 8 to 10 carbon atoms, the acid of salt (B) contains 6 to 10 carbon atoms, the alkylamine of salt (B) contains 4 to 12 carbon atoms and the ratio A: B by weight is between 3: 7 and 7: 3. A preferred inhibitor comprises equal amounts by weight of triethanolamine caprylate and dodecylamine caprylate. From 50 to 1000 p.p.m. by weight of the inhibitor, and preferably from 100 to 250 p.p.m., is added to the oil. Lists of components suitable for making salts (A) and (B) are given in the Specification.
