Abstract
1, 39, 709. Rotary evaporator flasks. W. BUCHI. May 31, 1965 [June 17,1964], No. 23038/65. Heading B1B. Evaporation of liquid is carried out in a glass flask 1 rigidly attached to a rotatable vapour-outlet pipe 2 into which projects a stationary pipe 7 the annular space between the two pipes being sealed by a device including a stationary ring which bears on the end of pipe 2 and on the outside of pipe 7. The stationary ring may be made of polytetrafluoroethylene. Pipe 2, which may be made of stainless steel, is supported on ball-bearings in a stationary sleeve, and is rotated by a worm 6 which engages with a worm-wheel 5 connected to pipe 2. The upper end of pipe 7 is connected via vapour-expansion vessel 9 to a condenser 13. Flask 1 is partly immersed in heated liquid in container 4. Any liquid reaching vessel 9, e.g. as a result of foaming or splashing, flows back into flask 1 without damaging the sealing device. The flask can be replenished with liquid from vessel 9.
