Abstract

1,039,654. Jointing tanks; welding by fusion. E. ARMSTRONG. Sept. 19, 1963 [June 25, 1962], No. 24324/62. Headings B3A, B3R and B3V. A method of securing a metal lining 2 in a tank &c. 1 comprises fixing, metal sheets 2 of the lining to the tank 1 by means of an adhesive 3, the adhesive being so applied that areas adjacent the edges of the sheets 2 which are to be joined by welding or brazing 4 are free of the adhesive. This may be an epoxy-thiokol resin, applied evenly as at 7, or in the form of a grid 3. A stainless steel lining may be secured to the de-scaled surface of a mild steel tank. A loose strip of stainless steel may be located between the tank and the overlapping or butting edges of the lining to be joined, as by argon-arc welding.
