Abstract
1,038,756. Valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 22, 1965, No. 11964/65. Heading F2V. An electrically actuated flow control valve comprises a plunger 1 (Fig. 1, not shown) slidable in a tube 2 under the action of a coil 5 surrounding the tube, the tube at its ends being provided with coaxial inlet 16 and outlet 17 connections, the latter also providing a seat 12 for a loose ball 11 carried at the end of the plunger, the plunger having longitudinal grooves A which connect the inlet and outlet and being biased towards the seat by a spring 10. A relief valve 15 may be provided upstream of the seat and seals 13, 14 prevent ingress of fluid into the coil housing. The plunger, the inlet end closure 3, the coil housing 6 and the outlet cover 9 may be of ferromagnetic material; the seat housing 4 may be of brass or other para- or diamagnetic material, the seat may be of a plastics material, the tube may be of anodized aluminium and the ball 11 may be of stainless steel or nylon.
