Abstract

Compounds of formula <FORM:1038365/C4-C5/1> where m and n are zero or positive integers and X is F or CF3, are of use as lubricating oils and greases.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula XCF2.CF2.O(CFX.CF2.O)nCFX.CFX (O.CF2CFX)mO.CF2CF2X where m and n are zero or positive integers and X is F or CF3, and their preparation by subjecting at least one compound XCF2.CF2.O(CFX.CF2.O)zCFX.COF where z is zero or an integer, to U.V. irradiation. The compound CF3CF2(OCF2CF2)2-F is disclaimed.ALSO:Compounds of the formula <FORM:1038365/C3/1> where m and n are integers and X is F or CF3, are prepared by the U.V. irradiation of a compound XCF2.CF2.O(CFX.CF2.O)zCFX.COF, in which z is an integer. In Example 1, the polymer has X = CF3 and m and n are greater than 21.
