A platform-supporting structure comprises at least three legs 75 (Fig. 7, not shown), having inherent positive buoyancy, pivot means 75B interattaching these legs at corresponding ends thereof, and means for trimming each of the legs. The structure has a hollow tubular mast 71 built of rigidly interattached sections and which has through its length an internal tube 71A through which a drill can pass. The foot of the mast comprises one or more floating elements 71B which together with deck 73 acts as a rolling wheel for launching the structure. The mast 71 carries the platform 72 which serves as the mounting for winches 72A. The legs 75 are constructed of sections of tube of which each is buoyant, joints being made at 75A. The pivoting arrangement allows the legs to swing radially from a nesting position parallel to the mast to a position contacting the bed of the water. A float 77 is movably attached to the mast 71. Trimming is achieved by means of external pipe connections (not shown). In a modification jets of water or air may be ejected from the mast and/or legs against the water bed to scour the bed prior to the bedding down of the structure. Also a setting concrete mass may be ejected from the mast and/or legs to form a foundation therefor.
