Abstract
1,034,898. Semi-conductor sawtooth circuits. MULLARD Ltd. May 31, 1965 [March 31, 1964], No. 13293/64. Heading H3T. A line time-base for a television receiver comprises deflection coils Ly controlled by a semi-conductor gate-controlled switch T turned on and off by current pulses derived from a switching transistor T2, RC-coupled to the gate of T1. As described, when transistor T2 is turned off, a current pulse is supplied to the gate of the controlled PNPN silicon switch T1, initiating a linear rise of current in deflection coils Ly. T2 is turned off at the end of each sweep providing a larger amplitude negative current pulse which turns off T1 and initiates a resonant flyback, the duration of which is controlled by Ly and C2. L1 may be replaced by an inductor, giving resonant charging of C1. A shunt energy-recovery diode D1 may be provided, and results in each sweep starting shortly before transistor T2 is turned off. Alternatively, a series H.T. boosting circuit may be provided if deflection coils Ly are coupled to tappings on a transformer in the anode circuit of T1 having a boost capacitor in series and an efficiency diode connected between the positive supply and the deflection coils.
