The invention comprises 6-formylamino-6,7-dihydro - 5H - dibenzo - [a, c]cycloheptene of the formula: <FORM:1034786/C2/1> The compound is prepared by formylamination of 6 - oxo - 6,7 - dihydro - 5H - dibenzo - [a,c]-cycloheptene, e.g. by treating the oxo compound pound with formamide and/or ammonium fornate in the presence or absence of formic acid, or with a mixture of formic acid and urea.
