Abstract

1,032,543. Counting and indicating apparatus. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE - GESELLSCHAFT. Oct. 11, 1963 [Oct. 11, 1962], No. 40181/63. Heading B8A. A device for counting and separating flat articles 1, e.g. biscuits, having rounded or chamfered edges, standing upright in a row and being conveyed towards a wrapping machine, into groups of equal numbers by means of a separating device acting on the counted articles, comprises a toothed counting wheel 15 arranged to be driven by the row of articles and to initiate the separating operation after the counting wheel has rotated through a predetermined angle. The articles 1 are moved by an endless conveyer belt 2 and are pushed between anglepieces 13, 14 on a plate 3, on to a table 4 which is downwardly displaceable. A horizontally movable take-off slide 5 engages the leading article in the row. As the articles advance, the teeth of the wheel 15 engage between the articles and the wheel is driven together with a cam 16 secured to the wheel. A soft faced supporting wheel 21 engages the article faces opposite the counting wheel 15. The cam is shaped such that after a rotation of the wheel 15 representing a predetermined number of articles passed, a spring-loaded hammer 17 engaging the cam, is released and an adjustable screw 18 thereon displaces a pivoted latch 10. The latter then releases a spring-loaded pivoted bracket 7 incorporating a foam rubber support 9 which engages the articles 1 over the plate 3 and prevents their further movement. A separating slide 20 is moved downwardly to divide off the counted articles and then moves in the direction of advance of the articles to move the counted batch completely on to the table 4 which is then lowered for delivery of the articles to the wrapping machine, the belt 2 sliding under the biscuits thereon. After the return of the takeoff slide 5, the separating slide 20 and the table 4, the support 9 is lifted and the cycle repeated.
