Abstract
1,031,969. High voltage switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 2, 1964 [Jan. 30, 1964], No. 49007/64. Heading H2B. An on-load disconnecting switch has a main fixed contact 50 co-operating with a main blade contact 30 and an arcing blade 20 pivotally mounted to the fixed contact 50 and co-operating with an arcing contact 63 in an arc-chute attached to the main blade 30. The arcing blade 20 is spring-biased clockwise (Fig. 4, not shown) but is latched by the arcing contact 63 so as to follow the main blade 30 during the initial part of the opening movement until it is freed by the contact 63, after the main contacts have separated, and returns rapidly to the end position. The walls of the arc-chute 61 are gas evolving.
