Abstract

In a control arrangement for a steam turbine 3 driving a generator 4 the action of a device 1, responsive to the speed of the turbine rotor, which positions a steam inlet valve 7 is modified by adjustment of a linkage arrangement 8 in dependence on movement of a link by a device 2, responsive to the load on the generator, and movement of a balancing link by a device 5 responsive to the pressure in an intermediate steam superheater line. For an increase in load the tendency for rotor speed to fall and the consequent opening of the valve 7 by the device 1 is anticipated and enhanced by the device 2. When after a lag, due to the storage of steam in the superheater, the pressure sensed by the device 5 increases the valve to partially re-closed to the steady state position. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown), for use with a turbine having a pair of intermediate superheaters a linked arrangement of a pair of devices 5 is employed.
