Abstract

1,030,820. Capacitors. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 13, 1963; Jan. 16, 1964], No. 46238/64. Heading H1M. In a process for manufacturing a capacitor strip assembly, a capacitor strip comprising a varnish layer with a metal layer on one side, the varnish layer is lined on its other exposed side with a layer of strip material while it is still tacky and unsolidified. The capacitor strip, Fig. 2 (not shown), consists of a carrier foil 1 over which is applied a layer 2 of varnish, e.g. of acetyl cellulose, a metal layer 3 and a further varnish layer 4, on the latter of which is adhered insulating strip material 5 of e.g. polystyrene or a further capacitor strip assembly, Figs. 4, 6, 7 (not shown). After adhesion of the strip material the carrier foil may be peeled off. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 (not shown), the exposed surfaces of the varnish layer 4, 14 of two capacitor strips are brought into contact and the carrier foils 1, 11 peeled away. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 (not shown), the exposed surface of the varnish layer 4 is brought into contact with the base of the carrier foil of a further capacitor strip. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5 (not shown), the capacitor strip has two metal layers 3, 4 interleaved between varnish layers 2, 4, 7. Adjacent metal layers may be staggered so that contacts may be made to them alternately or pairs of metal layers separated by varnish layers may be staggered and separated by other varnish layers; adjacent metal layers of the respective pairs being interconnected to leave the intervening varnish in a field-free space. The lining strips may be of paper, synthetic resin, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, and the varnish may comprise ethyl cellulose; while the metal layers may be of vaporized aluminium. The strip assemblies may be rolled to form a capacitor impregnated with e.g. chlorinated diphenyl, or chlorinated naphthalene.
