Abstract

1,030,512. Forging screw threads. ETABLISSEMENTS TROUGOUNAT. March 11, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962], No.9492/63. Heading B3H. Screw threads are formed on the outside of a tube 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), by enclosing it in a die 2, 3 having a threaded bore and forcing an oversize mandrel 8 through the bore of the tube. The die is in two parts which are pressed together between press platens 4, 5 to close on the tube. Mandrel 8 has an enlarged diameter bead 10 and is pressed through the bore by an hydraulic ram 6. The machine may be controlled automatically by electronic means.
