Abstract

1,029,807. Machinery guards. BARBER ELECTRICAL SERVICES Ltd. Aug. 17, 1964 [Nov. 23, 1963], No. 46344/63. Heading F2J. In a brake press a safety guard comprises a series of transparent spring-pressed sensors 4 arranged adjacent a press tool 2 and carried by a press bar 1, each sensor carrying an opaque signal 6 having a central hole 7 forming, with the other holes 7, a channel through which a beam of radiant energy is transmitted when the holes 7 are aligned. When one or more sensors 4 is raised with respect to the others, the beam is interrupted and causes stopping of the press. The source and receiver of the beam may be arranged in the end sensors 4 or in the frame on the machine. Electromagnetic radiation or acoustic radiation may be employed.
