Abstract

1,029,660. Refuse burning furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Nov. 4, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 41825/62. Heading F4B. Bagasse is fed to a furnace chamber 4 by a shoot 16 and spread over the sections of a grate 8 by a cyclically varied air blast from a nozzle 20. The grate 8 is divided into sections, each of which can be separately dumped into an ashpit 12. The ashpit 12 is divided by walls 72 into hopper-shaped sections filled with water to the level 32. Separate air supplies to each ashpit section have individual dampers, Fig. 2, not shown, so that the air to that section can be cut off when the grate is dumped. A water distributer 39 flushes the ash through a valved outlet 36. The refractory lined walls of the combustion chamber have air inlets 48, and two grates may be provided at the base of a water tube lined combustion chamber, separated by a wall extending above the entry for bagasse and burning air inlets. Doors 50 in the walls allow the fuel to be inspected or raked.
