Abstract

102,911. Vickers, Ltd., and Robinson, S. Sept. 21, 1916. Boring-bars A, Fig. 5, for use in chambered holes have the cutter mounted in a telescopic holder B, C. The part C carries a rack engaged by a pinion on a rod inserted from one end of the bar. By this means, the cutter is advanced, the pin M on the part B reaching the end of the slot L in the part C and sliding it into position to be engaged by a crank-pin N, Fig. 8, on a rod inserted from the other end of the bar, for traverse to the position shown in Fig. 8. The rods are rotated either directly or through worm gearing, and a diameter indicator is provided at each end. Cutter-bars.-In a modification for use in blindchambers, both holder parts carry racks and are engaged in succession by an axially displaceable pinion. A roller in a slot in the outer holder part co-operates with a recess in the cutter-bar and with the end of the inner holder to secure sequential movements.
