Abstract

Diphenylamine-4-diazonium salts are condensed with aldehydes or ketones in an acid medium to produce a polyfunctional condensation product. Specified aldehydes and ketones are acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, naphthalene-1-aldehyde, pyridine-3-aldehyde, paraldehyde, quinoline-4-aldehyde, acetone, butanone, di-isobutyl ketone, acetophenone and pyroracemic acid. Specified diazonium compounds are the 4-diazonium sulphate, chloride or phosphate of diphenylamine and 3 - methoxy - diphenylamine - 4 - diazonium sulphate and the acid medium is sulphuric, phosphoric or hydrobromic acid.
