Abstract

1,026,138. Capsules; container closures; bottles. UPJOHN CO. March 26, 1963 [April 20, 1962], No. 11857/63. Headings B8C, B8D and B8T. A container keeps two materials separate, e.g. a liquid 15 and a solid 16, by means of a plug 18 which may be forced out of position under pressure of the liquid 15 when a piston plug 25 secured to a cap 32 is pushed or screwed inwards. An annular shoulder 23 on the container neck 19 forms a downwardly-facing stop which is engaged by the constricted bottom edge 35 of the cap to provide a means limiting the outward movement of the cap and plug. The container may be moulded of glass or plastics; the plugs 18 and 25 may be of rubber-like material; and the cap 32 of aluminium or plastics. The plug 25 has a pierceable diaphragm 31 for use with a hypodermic syringe, Fig. 5 (not shown), inserted through an aperture 36 in the cap. Alternatively, the container contents may be poured out after the cap edge 35 has been deformed by unscrewing the cap beyond the limit formed by the inter-engaging stop means 23, 35. Where the cap is of plastics the constricted bottom edge 35 may be in the from of a bead on the cap skirt; and instead of being screw-threaded the cap may be of the snap-on type.
