Abstract

Aluminium fluoride of high purity is prepared by treating hydrated alumina with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride at a temperature below 550 DEG C., and the product with a further excess of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride at a temperature above 650 DEG C. and preferably below 750 DEG C.
