Abstract

1,025,933. Closure caps. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. Feb. 5, 1963 [July 23, 1962], No. 4574/63. Heading B8T. A closure cap comprises a crown shell CS having a peripheral skirt and a central dome portion CD, and carrying a liner of elastic material, the liner having one side thereof adhered to the portion CD and the other side having at least two concentric ribs, e.g. three ribs 14a, 20a, 25a for compression against the lip of a container, the radially innermost rib 14a being higher than the remaining rib or ribs. As described, the liner is formed by placing a mass of plastisol in the centre of an empty shell and applying heat and pressure to mould the material to the desired shape and adhere it to the cap, after which a coating of vinyl lacquer may be applied. A punch which applies the pressure has two circular edges 31, 35 which contact the cap during pressing to prevent surplus material from reaching the skirt, which is corrugated. The ribs are pressed into a solid mass against the bottle lip when the cap is applied thereto, and the skirt is crimped below a lip on the bottle neck.
