A lampholder, for use with flash bulbs having cap end portions of different dimensions, has a pair of oppositely disposed contacts 23, 24, Fig. 1, for the bulb of smaller dimension collateral with another pair of oppositely disposed contacts 14, 15 for the bulb of greater dimension, the contacts 23, 24 being reversibly outwardly displaced by the bulb of greater dimension on insertion into the holder, Fig. 2. The blade-type spring holding contacts 14, 15 are supported on one side in slots 16, 17 and on the other side on projections 18, 19, and serve for positioning and contact making with contact strips 20, 21 in the case of flash bulbs of greater dimension with oval cap end portions 4. Contacts 23, 24 which may be integral with contacts 14, 15, Figs. 3 and 5, not shown, angled to increase their range of movement and have oblique surfaces 25, 26, make contact with contact wires 27, 28 of flash bulbs of smaller dimension with flat cap end portions 11, Fig. 1. Two guides 2, 3 fixed to the external housing 1 of the lampholder have two guiding and holding springs 7, 8, Fig. 4, not shown, the bent portions 9, 10 of which enter constrictions 12, 13 of a flat flash bulb cap portion 11, thus determining the depth of insertion and the position of the bulb.
