Abstract

1,025,004. Tape reels. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 21, 1963 [March 11, 1963], No. 33150/63. Heading B8M. [Also in Division G5] Tape-for example magnetic recording tape-is prevented from slipping when initially wound on a reel 10, by a leaf spring 20 adjacent flange 13 and which in an unflexed condition is spaced from the opposite flange 12 by a distance less than the width of the tape, the spring being flexed by the initial turns of the tape against flange 13. The spring may be of steel coated on the tape engaging surface with silicone rubber to provide a high friction surface, and is mounted on a tapered projection 24. There may be three such springs spaced around the hub, Fig. 2 (not shown) and these springs may extend integrally from a central plate formed with an aperture for the mounting spindle. The reel is moulded-for example from polystyrene-in two parts 10a, 10b which are stuck together.
