Abstract

Acidic gases (H2S, CO2, COS) are removed from natural gas, town gas and other combustible gases by treating the gases with a liquid absorbent comprising at least one amine and at least one member of the group consisting of N-alkylated piperidones and N-alkylated pyrrolidones. The process details are similar to those described in Specification 972,140, both as regards the proportions of amine and the pressures employed, and the regeneration of the absorbent with recovery of gasoline hydrocarbons and sulphur. Amines mentioned are: monoethanol-, diethanol-, dipropanol- (diisopropanol-amine is preferred), and alkyl-, phenyl alkyl-, alkoxy alkyl-, and alkoxy aryl amines, e.g. dimethyl-, methyl ethyl-, phenyl ethyl-, 2,4-phenylene diamine, and methoxy ethyl diamine. The piperidones and pyrrolidones may be substituted or unsubstituted, and the alkyl substituent preferably has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, N-methyl pyrrolidone being preferred. The absorbent may include 1 to 15% by weight water, and also some glycol. Two specific examples are described.ALSO:Acidic gases (H2S, CO2, COS) are removed from natural gas, town gas and other combustible gases by treating the gases with a liquid absorbent comprising at least one amine and at least one member of the group consisting of N-alkylated piperidones and N-alkylated pyrrolidones.
