Abstract

1,024,459. Fuel injection pumps. AMERICAN BOSCH ARMA CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1964 [Nov. 5, 1963], No. 44913/64. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump comprising a rotary and reciprocating distributing and injection plunger 22, driven from an engine cam-shaft 24, a lost-motion connection is provided between a gear 52 and a hub 86 pinned to the plunger, so that on reverse rotation of the engine the injection timing is such as to prevent the operation of the engine. A drive pin 92, Fig. 3 (not shown), in the gear 52 co-operates with the face 98 of a slot 94 in the hub 86 under normal operation of the engine and the face 100 should reverse drive occur. The plunger 22 delivers fuel to a plurality of outlet passages 74 via a delivery valve 62, plunger annulus 70 and distributer port 72. The quantity of fuel delivered is controlled by a centrifugal governor 46, 47, 48, the control rod 50 of which determines the axial position of a sleeve 78 relative a spill bore 84 in the plunger.
