Abstract

1,024,059. Opening packages. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Feb. 19, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 7176/65. Heading B8C. To assist a tear strip which is adhesively secured to the outer surface of a film of synthetic plastics material, an aperture is provided in the film in a direction transverse to the edge of the strip, the strip being secured sufficiently close to the edge of the aperture to enable the film to be ruptured at the aperture by a pull on the strip. In the embodiment described a plastics bag is heat shrunk about an object and then a cut is made in the bag. A tear strip is adhesively secured to the bag so that one end of the strip extends over the cut and this end, with the exception of a small portion adjacent the cut, is left without adhesive to form a tab. The aperture may extend beyond the strip in each of two opposite directions transverse to the strip, and the strips may be positioned at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the aperture.
