Abstract
1,023,234. Coin boxes for coin-freed apparatus. R. L. DEAN, and D. M. PRICE. July 20, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 26462/61. Heading G4V. A coin box for an automatic vending machine comprises a pivotally mounted flap 14 having a slot 16 very slightly larger than the crosssection of a coin for which the box is intended, the flap being positioned so that when the box is upright the slot registers with one end of a shoot 11 through which coins enter the box, and when the box is inverted the flap swings about a pivot 15 under the force of gravity and the slot is moved out of register with the end of the shoot. The arrangement prevents the unauthorized removal of coins from the box when the box is removed from the machine for replacing with an empty box. The shoot 11 has a wide opening 10 at its upper end for receiving coins after the vending machine has been operated and at its lower end 13 is just large enough to pass a correct coin, the coin passing through the slot 16 in the flap and a slot 17 in an internal wall 18 of the box. The flap has a weight 21 which abuts a stop 19 in the upright position of the box. Where the box is inverted, gravity acts on the weight to move the flap about the pivot 15 and the slot 16 out of register with the lower end of the shoot and the slot 17. The lower end 22 of the box is hinged at 23 and a tongue is provided for a padlock. The shoot may be in the form of a part-cylindrical plate concentric with the curved end of the flap.
