Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A vehicle anti-theft lock comprises a casing 9, Fig. 3, a rotatable cylinder 10 arranged within the casing and adapted to receive a key 11 by which the cylinder is rotated, a contactor plate 19 connected to the cylinder for rotation relative to fixed terminals, a spring urged bolt 15 movable within the casing and engageable with an aperture in a part to be locked, a spring urged locking element for the bolt, movable into positions where the bolt is free to move and where the element engages the bolt or an extension thereof to lock the bolt, either in a position in which the part referred to is unlocked or in a position in which the part is locked. As shown, the key 11 is provided with a notch 11a into which a plate 23a constituting the locking element is urged when the key is completely engaged in the lock. A plate 26, Fig. 8 (not shown), attached to the bolt 15 is formed with notches 26a, 26b and a cam follower 26c which cooperates with a cam 18a on a rotor 18, Fig. 3, carrying the contactor plate 19. The arrangement is such that while the key 11 is in the lock, the plate 23a is held in a first position by the notch 11a of the key 11 in engagement with notch 26a and prevents the bolt 15 from moving from an unlocked retracted position to a locked projected position. As the key is withdrawn, the plate 23a engages a part 11b of the key and releases the bolt 15 towards it projected position and upon complete withdrawal of the key the plate 23a engages notch 26b to lock the bolt in its projected "stop" position. When the key 11 is inserted and turned, the bolt is retracted, the plate 23a is disengaged from the notch 11a and slides on an arcuate surface of the cylinder 10 to allow removal of the key. The lock is then in a "garage" position. In the arrangement according to Figs 11-17 (not shown), a lock cylinder includes a collar which connects with a cam, a stem of which extends across a bolt and engages a case housing a torsion spring, adapted to disconnect the vehicle starting switch when the lock key is released and while the end of the stem is engaged in a rotor of an electrical contact. A groove on the lock casing houses a spring-loaded lever a part of which engages a notch of the key. In this position the bolt is held retracted. As the key is withdrawn, the bolt is released to the "stop" position and the lever engages a notch on the bolt. When the key is inserted and turned, the cam withdraws the bolt and another part of the lever re-engages a further notch on the bolt.
