Abstract

1,021,494. Lined boxes. O. W. CHRISTENESON. Nov. 22, 1962 [Nov. 23, 1961], No. 44183/62. Heading B8P. [Also in Division B5] A method of producing cartons consisting of an outer cardboard or the like container and an inner plastics lining comprises positioning a plastics sheet over the open top of the container, which is formed with apertures at the perimeter of the base therein and is held in a matrix, heating the sheet and deep pressing or drawing it into the outer container, the final thickness of the sheet being not greater than 0À1 mm. The base edges of the container may be bevelled to prevent damage to the lining during formation. As described, a cardboard container 10 with apertures at the comers 11, 12, 13, 14 is placed in a matrix 15 and a plastics sheet 20 is clamped between frames 18, 19 and heated by a heater 22. The frames are then brought downwardly on to a resilient ring 21 on top of the matrix and vacuum is applied through a tube 16 in the bottom. The matrix bottom has diagonal channels 17 which are in communication with the apertures at the corners. Alternatively the lining can be pressed into the container by super-atmospheric pressure above it. The lining extends over the upper edge of the container to facilitate sealing on a plastics closure (not shown).
