Abstract
1,021,152. Electromagnetic relays. SQUARE D CO. May 6, 1963 [July 2, 1962], No. 17740/63. Heading H2B. A moving contact bridge assembly 98, 100, 101, Fig. 17 (not shown), is rotatable about a driving bar 92 of an insulating contact carrier 86 to change it from the normally open (Fig. 17, not shown) to the normally closed position (Fig. 19, not shown). The contact bridge 98 co-operates with fixed contacts 116. The arrangement is such that in the case of normally open contacts the bridge engages the fixed contacts when the carrier has completed the first half of its stroke and the spring 101 is compressed during the second half of its stroke. Likewise, with normally closed contacts, the carrier will complete half of its stroke before the contacts disengage and the spring 101 will be compressed during the final part of its stroke. Thus reversing of the contact bridge from the normally open to the normally closed position has no effect on the overall bias of the contact carrier. In the relay shown (Fig. 2, not shown), an armature carrier 50 is received in grooves 59, 60 in a housing 26, an encapsulated coil 16 is received in slots 69 in the housing, an E-shaped core 16 with shaded poles is secured in the housing by brackets 73, the contact carrier 86 is mounted on extensions 49 of the armature carrier 50, blocks 22 carrying the fixed contacts are mounted on either side of the contact carrier and are located by lugs 107a engaging in the slots 69 of the housing, and the housing is closed by a cover 24 held in position by two spring biased brackets 28. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the ends 73a of brackets 73 engage shoulders 85 in the housing and are maintained in position by compression springs 74. The core 76 is secured to its support 71 by a spring and is provided with sponge rubber buffers 79, 80 The armature 52 is mounted by a flat spring 54 in its carrier 50. The relay may be manually operated by a push button and may have four poles as shown or eight poles arranged in two superposed rows of four (Figs. 14 ... 16, not shown). The cover has a number of holes in it for the inspection of contacts.
