Abstract
1,020,135. Expansion engine valve gear. W. G. LUNDQUIST. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 1, 1963], No. 30892/64. Headings F1M and F1S. In a valve control arrangement for an expansion engine having a plurality of cylinders with pistons symmetrically arranged about a common axis, the piston having their piston rods pivotally connected to a frame, the frame is provided with cam tracks 36A 36B, 36C, 36D, which co-operate with respective tappet rollers 56B of the valves, whereby the opening and closing of the valves is controlled in response to the movement of the frame. As shown the cylinders A, B, C, D are arranged in pairs in a plurality of cylinder blocks each pair of cylinders having a common valve. At least two crank-shafts 30, 31 of equal crank throw may be employed and the frame may be carried jointly by the crankpin journals of the crankshafts. Each piston may be provided with a back pressure relief valve (not shown) operated by a cam provided on the upper end of the connecting rod. Each cylinder has a plurality of exhaust ports 70.
