Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1019920/C2/1> where R1 and R2, the same or different, represent straight-chain or branched alkyl radicals and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical or an aralkyl radical, and the preparation thereof by the oxidation of a compound of the formula <FORM:1019920/C2/2> with nitrous acid or an ester thereof. 7 - Unsubstituted - xanthines are formed as by-products in the above process. Compounds of the Formula II may be prepared by nitrosation of compounds of the formula <FORM:1019920/C2/3> with excess nitrosating agent. 1,3 - Dimethyl - uric acid is formed by the action of heat on 7-hydroxy theophyllin.
