Abstract

In a rock reduction plant large pieces of rock delivered from a hopper on to a conveyer belt are, on being carried forward by the belt, sprayed with a conductive fluid on passing under spray means, air dried on the surface, and then fragmented on being contacted by electrodes connected to a source of electrical potential e.g. a high voltage pulse generator. The potential causes current to flow with subsequent localized heating effects through the conductive paths formed by the conductive fluid-filled interstices of the rock.
